Physician Legal Services The legal aspects of being a physician in today's healthcare environment have become increasingly complex. New laws and regulations govern patient privacy rights, reimbursement, involvement in ancillary services, and use of electronic health records. Because we serve physicians exclusively, we are familiar with a wide range of legal issues affecting physicians, and can provide solutions to the problems physicians frequently encounter. Here are some of the solutions we provide for physicians: Contract review — We negotiate managed care contracts to be more favorable for physicians, so that more of their claims will be paid with less hassle. Many managed care companies use standard contracts, but have flexibility to change the terms of these contracts with physicians. We also review physician employment contracts to make sure the physician is treated fairly. Patient privacy compliance requirements — We respond to the day-to-day concerns of physician practices relating to HIPAA, to assure the physicians or their practices do not inadvertently violate the privacy rights of patients. Formation of medical practices — We provide advice on the type of entity, and properly create the new entity, to ensure that the physician maintains a veil between the physician's personal assets and judgments against the physician's employees or partners. Sale of medical practices — We provide advice and assistance to assure that physicians obtain the best deal possible when selling a medical practice to the hospital. Formation of provider organizations — We help independent physicians to jointly contract with payors and/or hospitals, through accountable care organizations or otherwise, to improve the quality of care for patients and maximize reimbursement to the physicians. |
